Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins: Book Review

Rating: 3.75/5

Read: Sep 15th, 2015

So, I feel like not a lot happened in this book, yet I still enjoyed it. The whole travel aspect was really fun, especially when they came to Australia, where I live. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book set here before!

Throughout the first half of the novel, Kaidan (aka, bae) was absent cries, although I did enjoy that this book took a turn and focused more on the deeper meaning of the story and the paranormal aspects.

However, the repetition of the whole ‘Anna and Kaidan being bad for eachother, and therefore cannot be together’ really annoyed me after a while, because it was sooo obvious that they were completely 100 times better together than they were miserably apart… If that’s a slow burning romance, I’m kinda glad we have that ‘insta-love’ cliche, *phew, wipes brow*.

Overall, I did enjoy this instalment in the trilogy, despite the lack of events, the last 40 or so pages finally started to show something happening, so I have high hopes for book 3, the final one!

Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins: Book Review

Rating: 4.5/5

I read a quote in this book that simply resonated with me and, I felt described the deeper meaning of every other word that was written on these pages:

“The mind is its own place, and in itself

can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven”

I loved this book, and the reason it’s only getting 4 stars is because I strongly believe the other two novels in this trilogy will be even better.

The first half of the text reads much like a contemporary, due to the road trip aspect (which I loved so much). I found majority of the story to be quite realistic, despite the fact that it’s paranormal based.

The characters were very enjoyable to read about, which I find other paranormal books can sometimes lack in unfortunately. I’m not usually one to fall so easily for the ‘bad boy’, but my gosh did I love Kaidan Rowe! *swoon*

I was really impressed with the originality of the story, and the various things Wendy Higgins brought to this novel, whether that be the complexity behind the world/culture or simply the seven deadly sins take.

I cannot wait to see what the rest of this trilogy has to offer, and what the heck is going to happen between Kaidan and Anna!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling: Book Review

Rating: 4.5/5

Read: Aug 15th, 2015

Ah, J.K. Rowling truly is a genius! The way this book is moulded together is a true art and masterpiece. It continues to baffle me how one could come up with such an incredible story like this, simply from their own mind.

In this novel, we begin to see the start of Ron and Hermione’s future relationship, and it was so cute to read about Ron’s obvious jealousy.

This book really set up the eerie tone for the next books, and I can’t wait to see how dark the story ends up going, as I know it definitely gets a-lot darker in terms of the movies.

I loved Dumbledore and Sirius in this, and Hermione’s bad-assery really started to kick off towards the end! I can’t wait to see how that progresses. The words Dumbledore says just shows how wise he is, and I love it!

J.K. Rowling’s use of the Dementors is an incredible link to what they’re supposed to represent, which is depression. I’ll share with you a line that made me appreciate Ms. Rowling’s brain on this even more than I previously did:

“Most go mad in there, and plenty stop eating in the end. They lose the will to live. You could always tell when a death was coming, because the Dementors could sense it, they got excited.”

There certainly are some incredible quotes and passages throughout this novel, and I bow down to you, J.K. Rowling. I’m so excited to continue to read how Harry and his friends grow and mature, as the tone of the book does also.

The Good Girls by Sara Shepard: Book Review

Rating: 4.5/5

The Good Girls, book 2 in The Perfectionists duology

I really enjoyed this book, I think more than the first instalment because I already knew who all the characters were and I was so excited to find out who the killer was!

This book was mind-blowing! That plot twist…

On page 245 we find out exactly what the heck is going on in Beacon Heights, and boy did Ms Shepard not disappoint!

I was very impressed, shocked and creeped out by how Shepard constructed the plot and revealed the killer (and yes we do find out, this isn’t a 16 book series). I loved who it turned out to be and the story that went along with it! Amazing.

Although I had my speculations about certain characters, and I was kind-of on the right track, the overall reveal of the killer still left me with goosebumps and left me too scared to sleep facing the wall…

I cannot express my satisfaction enough in relation to the ending, I’m happy with how every characters story arc’s tied up. Even though Shepard has a knack for ending her series with a loose end, and an opportunity to write more, I don’t think I’d oppose to that… I am still content with the ending.

Basically, I’d buy and read anything Sara Shepard writes, and can’t wait to see what she has in store for the future! More murder mystery books, please.

The Perfectionists by Sara Shepard
Book 1 in The Perfectionists duology

As I expected, I really enjoyed this book, of course it’s Sara Shepard, how could I not?

My thoughts on each of the main characters:

Parker: she was a really interesting and in-depth character to read about, who was just so complex. I can’t wait to find out more about her in the next book. I predicted what was going to happen in regards to her relationship plot line, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless.

Mackenzie: I loved Mac, she was so fun to read about. She’s the musical character, and her story with her so called ‘friend’ Claire, and her boyfriend was really intriguing, and I’m excited to see how that is all handled in the next book.

Ava: I also loved Ava, I feel like she played the biggest role in relation to the main ‘suspect’ in this novel, and I love her relationship with Alex.

Julie: she was great, I really enjoyed reading about her ‘secret’ relating to her home life, and how she was always there for her friends.

Caitlin: I really loved Caitlin, her relationship plot line was the most interesting to read about out of all the girls, and I’m so excited to see where that goes in the next book. I’m also interested to see how her whole ‘soccer’ situation plays out.

This book was quite short, so there’s not a lot to say, but I really, really enjoyed it and can’t wait to pick up the second and final instalment.
I really enjoyed all the characters, and despite the huge amount of characters in this book, it didn’t take me very long to decipher them from one another.

I’m so intrigued and eager to find out who the killer is… Have to wait not so patiently for the second book to come in the mail…
